Our approach to healthy pasture-raised pork.

When considering the health of our pigs, we like to start with a spacious and clean paddock. Paddock size ranges between one-quarter and one-half acre to ensure sufficient, free choice forage. Each day we remove solid waste from the paddock, so that it is not tracked into the communal feed. Other daily farm chores include verifying the wellness of the pigs, replenishing the grain feed, and replenishing the fresh water from our local municipality. Our Berks rotate to a fresh paddock weekly. Paddocks rest for at least four weeks before pigs are rotated back in. The pastures here at Tulip Hayes Farm are free of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.

The pasture-raised pigs at Tulip Hayes Farm are never given growth hormones. Our Berks are fed out on a 15% protein grain and swine pellet feed that includes barley and a touch of sweet molasses. As needed, they are supplemented with a mineral block and during the winter months they are given high quality timothy and alfalfa hay (in addition to their grain feed).
