Berkshire Pigs & Pasture-Raised Pork

Our farm.

Tulip Hayes Farm is a 175 acre, family owned and operated farm in Georgetown, Kentucky. Specializing in Berkshire heritage breed pigs, the herd at Tulip Hayes Farm is registered with the American Berkshire Association (ABA). Intention is at the core of our operation, from the feed we offer our livestock to daily farm chores. We are intent on nourishing our Berkshire heritage breed pigs, providing the best possible care, and delivering the highest quality pasture-raised pork.

Tulip Hayes Farm raises Berkshire pigs on pasture during the fall and winter months, and in woodlands during the spring and hot summer months. Paddocks are cleaned daily to ensure sanitation. The pastures here at Tulip Hayes Farm are free of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.

Widely regarded as premium quality pork, Berkshire pork is renowned for its high degree of marbling. The marbling results in pork that is a reddish color, sweeter, more tender, and juicier than your average commodity variety. This is why our farm sources 100% purebred Berkshire pigs, instead of crossbreed varieties.

Tulip Hayes Farm raises clean, healthy pork from litters known for their premium meat quality. Our livestock is Napole free, which is a gene that is known to make pork tough. Our proof is in the pedigree, and our litters undergo genetic testing prior to registration with the ABA.

Why our Berkshire pork?

Kentucky Proud

The pasture-raised Berkshire pork at Tulip Hayes Farm is Kentucky born and grazed. Our farrow to finish farm offers ABA registered breeding stock, feeder pigs, and finished hogs. Our Berkshire pigs rotationally graze across 175 acres of woodland and pasture. They have access to plentiful forage, freshly supplied water, and carefully selected grain. Humanely cared for and responsibly utilized for forest restoration. Our Berkshire pigs are rotated to rested paddocks every 5 to 10 days. We never clip teeth and never dock tails, because who needs that kind of stress in your life.

Our Berks.

Berkshire pigs have black bodies with white coloring on their snouts and feet. Their feed conversion is lower, therefore, they take longer to reach butcher weight than other breeds of pigs. This is why other farms lean toward crossbreeding Berkshires with faster growing breeds or they choose not to raise Berkshire pigs at all.

Our offerings.

Our farm farrows litters of pigs twice per year. Piglets are weaned by eight weeks of age, and begin eating grain and drinking fresh water from nipple drinkers. Weaned pigs can be reserved as breeding stock, which introduces new bloodlines into existing breeding programs. Weaned pigs can also be used to replace boars and sows that have concluded breeding. Often times weaned pigs are reserved as feeder pigs, which are fed to a butcher weight outside of Tulip Hayes Farms. Since not everyone has the space to feed a pig until it reaches 220lbs, our farm also offers finished hogs. Our finished hogs can be sold as half hogs, whole hogs, and we also have smaller pigs that serve well as an open fire roaster.
